Clematis ‘Baroness Fookes’ is a compact, deciduous, large-flowered clematis with rich purple-blue blooms and a darker central stripe. It is bred as a bushy, free-flowering climber suitable for smaller gardens and containers. The flowers are large, usually around 4–5 inches across, with broad, slightly ruffled tepals in a deep purple‑blue shade. Each tepal typically shows a darker purple bar down the center, and the blooms have prominent red anthers that stand out against the petals, giving a very striking bicolour effect.' Baroness Fookes’ has a bushy, relatively compact climbing habit, making it well suited to small trellises, obelisks, and patio containers. The foliage is mid to deep green and fairly dense, which provides a strong backdrop that helps the vivid flowers stand out. This variety is bred to be very free‑flowering, producing many blooms over a long season in summer, often from late spring into early autumn with good care. Its size and floral display make it ideal for vertical accents in small spaces, doorways, balconies, and mixed containers where a striking purple clematis is desired. Clematis grows well in containers or garden and can be used to cover a wall, fence, or trellis. It needs partial to full sun (at least 3 hours of direct sunlight).
