John Huxtable Clematis Overview
Clematis 'John Huxtable' is a large-flowering hybrid cultivar prized for its profuse pure white blooms measuring 5-6 inches across, featuring creamy or yellow stamens. It produces a long, continuous display of flowers on the current season's growth during summer into early fall. This late-flowering variety stands out as one of the few white options among typically purple or pink Jackmanii hybrids. The plant grows as a vigorous deciduous climber reaching 8-10 feet tall, suitable for USDA Zone 4 with full pruning in late winter. It requires support like a trellis and thrives with at least 2 inches of weekly water during active growth, preferring sun on top growth and shaded roots. Similar in habit to 'Comtesse de Bouchard', it offers lily-like translucent flowers up to 12 cm wide in midsummer.
